Campaign Amateur Theatre (CAT) was founded in 1969 as a performing arts group based in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Our aim is to offer drama, singing and dance experience to adults and children of ages 8+, in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Following auditions, we normally rehearse in Little Thetford or at Ely College for 3-4 months, twice a week leading up to 4-5 performances. These shows involve excellent local talent and are held at the Maltings, Ely or Ely College.

As well as on stage performing experience, we also provide opportunities to help out backstage with stage management, set design and technical roles.

If you are interested in performing with CAT here are a few things you might need to know:

  • Auditions are held for each show and you must audition to be cast. Auditions are in a relaxed workshop-style environment, however you may be required to perform a solo song if you are auditioning for a principal role. Please see our audition page or Facebook page for current audition dates.

  • All performers must be a member of CAT. Membership is £25 per calendar year and must be paid BEFORE the first rehearsal. Membership fees allow the Committee of volunteers to run CAT successfully and also helps pay toward insurance costs. As a member, you will receive the following benefits:

  • Priority ticket purchasing, the opportunity to take part in any show CAT produces within a year and able to participate in CAT social events

  • As well as the membership fee, performers are required to pay a performance fee of £35 (variable dependent on production). This fee goes towards the very high production costs we incur.

  • There may also be a script fee which will be returned after the performance should the script be returned undamaged.

  • Rehearsals are held twice a week: Usually Tuesday 7-9pm and Sunday 3-5pm at Little Thetford Village Hall or at Ely College but these are occasionally subject to change.

  • Not everybody will be required at every rehearsal but you'll need to be available just in case, until the rehearsal schedule is sent round.

  • Show week is very busy and you/your child will be required for the evenings of that entire week usually starting from the Sunday before opening night, until the last performance.
